Remember

I remember,
The reassuring sun shining on my grinning face.
It was summer again
And I no longer felt the cold, lonely ice,
Hitting me in the face.

I picture,
In my battered head,
The sanity
Which once filled my now freezing, run down
Barely lively body.

Now I march,
As the bright winter sun, that once
Sufficiently supplied me with joy,
Makes me melt with weakness
And guilt

As I try to withstand the weight
Of my gun and of my near corpse,
I do not understand.

Although,
I do not understand why,
Why my slender figure weighs so much
Just like I do not understand the concept of war

For I am young
And I will die young
In this,
The unforgiving battle…
